Are there reasons why kids should not have homework?

I often fight my oldest son on this topic. He thinks that homework stinks like many other kids but he often gives the reasoning that he has very little time to do what he enjoyed after school when he has to worry about getting homework done for several classes. Are there any logical reasons that argue against homework and why kids shouldn’t have any?

I was never a fan of it but I can understand why there is homework.

The reasons why I don't agree with it are similar to yours. Children need to be able to be children. If they grow up too fast, they often feel isolated from other children.

I think that it should be introduced to children around the age of 12 and no sooner. Homework tends to be overwhelming to children but teens handle time management a lot better.

Some students get easily overwhelmed if there is too much homework. This can be stressful. You have to consider that they are not only going to school to learn but to socialize and learn life skills.

If there is no homework, there is more time for after school activities that will help with socializing skills and well as creative thought. My son enjoys horse riding and if he is overwhelmed with homework, he often doesn't have the time to enjoy his horse.

Time. Some kids get too much too soon and are overwhelmed. They have little time after school to do anything else either. Some kids even get weekend work so they have even less free time.
