Is there a reason for this? I feel like the earlier years can easily be taught by a parent. Basic math, spelling, science, and history can easily be taught by most parents so why do we need to go to school when we are younger?
Most households in today's world have two working parents so unless a parent were able to not work and stay home or the parents were able to afford a teacher to come and teach from their home, this is not an option.
Going to school is easier and often more affordable than hiring a private teacher or providing education yourself as a parent. As mentioned, many parents both work these days and have careers.
If we don't have some platform of education it is considered child abuse because as the child grows older and falls behind educationally, it limits what they can do with their life as an adult.
It is the law. You can't break this law, as mentioned, or the state will consider it child neglect and abuse. A friend of mine growing up stopped going to school and the parents didn't care. He ended up getting put in foster care.

I guess this is an issue I didn't consider. I mean for a household where one parent does stay home, this is possible right? A parent should be able to each a child up until a certain grade and it is okay?
